Technology Adoption + Sustainable Technology?

Call me a "technophobe" or old-fashioned,but I think technology (meant to improve communication) has made people more "anti-social".What happened to having a random conversation with someone on the bus or plane, or a phone call? Now it is either "BB to BB", everyone on their iphone/ipad/laptop/kindle etc.I have a phone book...lesson learnt from phones "crashing".As per the Technology Adoption Lifecycle,I guess I am a "Laggard".Are you a/an Innovator,Visionary,Pragmatist,Conservative or Laggard?

There is a lot of focus on business prospects in Africa (Even Walmart is coming to Africa..I tire!). I hope these businesses are developing new technologies or adapting existing ones with the end users/systems in mind.
Developing technology to be used in the developing world has its own challenges...3As & Ss come to mind....
- Availability
- Accessibility
- Affordability
- Simplicity
- Security
- Sustainability

2 Es have been added to the list..As per Sylvie Bello..."Technology in Africa should be 2E for the community....have us Empowered and Engaged..."

What technologies do we need in Africa? .....Which Technologies would you say are Sustainable? What challenges do you face doing business in Africa?

Have a great week ahead.

I am inspired by fashion this week. The Cameroonian fashion scene is buzzing and growing... Everyone seems to be into fashion in one way or another these days. It's a "Camer guy thing" aims to feature male fashion designers...I am very excited about what I see so far!!

4J couture is a product of the creativity and fashion genius of its creators- Dr Bertrand Fote (sir 4te) and Lyonga Esunge (Dr J)

"4J Couture was established to bring up to date fashion to the wardrobes of men who want to dress and feel good. We believe that elegance is an essential part of being a man and we are committed to providing high quality clothing apparel to meet the needs of our customers. We design classic and contemporary European style slim fit suits, blazers and shirts, carefully tailored by our highly experienced tailors. In order to provide a one-stop shopping experience for your complete wardrobe needs, we also carry specially selected accessories, such as belts, ties, shoes and ascots that match the quality of the 4J Couture label..."

What's the 4J Story?

"...I have liked fashion for a long time and have always been talking - albeit jokingly- of one day getting into the industry. My very good friend (from high school - Sasse) called Lyonga a.k.a Dr J started selling shirts and suits in small scale back when he was in university back home in Cameroon. He always came to me first whenever he had new stuff, because he understood my love for fashion.

As I finished residency and finally settled down financially and time-wise, I told Dr J he needed to get out of his basement and think big. I told him we could make our own designs and take advantage of the Internet etc and really grow big. He bought the idea and we started working towards creating a business venture. It was a perfect match - we both have the love and eye for fashion, I have a business background (MBA), he has over 15 years of experience in the industry, we have been friends since childhood...."...And rest his HIS-TORY!!

"True Elegance" indeed! There's nothing like a guy in a crisp shirt, suit and tie.Sorry oh, I like fine! Our men love to dress up..So why not get "swagged" up by our very own Camer brothers??

Ehmmmm..why are the ladies left out? I can see myself wearing the shirts in the pics above*wink*...I guess the guys are on the drawing board??

Bamenda did rock on 26/12/2010!! I am a very proud "graffi" chick...and passionate about events that showcase the talent, creativity and initiative of young paysans!!

KiRette Couture (KC) led fashion houses, Rodrigue Tchatcho, Syl Anim, Tia Mac Ren, Nuvi Designs

and Dilisious Coucou in a mesmerising display of Cameroon-inspired chic.

Ayaba Hotel pool area

PR and Marketing Partners

Votre Avant Garde (VAG)

Hip-hopper, Valsero, R&B group, BAAM, African soul star Landry Njapa and pop act, Excel

Nuvi Designs
Nuvi Designs opened the catwalk with a delightful assortment of wax print cuts. A Touch of showed off a colourful melange of vivid styles and urban cuts.

Dilisious Coucou

Syl Anim

Men in cyclist shorts, a cute model in a hoodie and a fabulous new range of patterned sandals sprang out of Nigeria-based Syl Anim’s hip collection.

Tia MacRen
Up-and-coming trio Tia MacRen kept it fresh and youthful with trendy mini dresses. A futuristic key piece introduced the young brand’s daring side.

Rodrigue Tchatcho

Douala resident, Rodrigue Ttchatcho’s versatility shone through casual creations and detailed evening/bridal gowns.

Kirette Couture

Dramatic, arty and evolutionary sum up KC’s unveiling of its Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Gorgeous, bikini clad models strutted uber trendy jackets adorned with bold prints, bright embroidery and patterned frills while richly textured evening gowns added an edge of sophistication to KC’s latest offering.

A highlight was a vibrant embroidered piece from KC’s newly launched children’s range.

Thumbs up to the organizers, producers, sponsors, designers, models, photographers, PR & Marketing experts etc....It was an amazing event!
KC is raising the bar....Looking forward to BR3!!
