GIVING BACK: THE MISSY BK FOUNDATION LAUNCHES IN CAMEROON WITH THE GIFT OF EDUCATION TO FIVE ORPHANS

THE AWARD WINNING AFRO POP SINGER
MISSY BK GIVES THE GIFT OF EDUCATION TO FIVE ORPHANS IN CAMEROON.

The Missy BK Foundation, launched last September 8th, is a non-profit organization which seeks to inspire and empower underprivileged children, orphans and families living in the Republic of Cameroon in Central Africa.

The Founder, Constance Bih Kimal, aka Missy BK, is a young, vibrant, multi-talented artist whose hit single “My Baby” made waves across Africa, Canada, America and Europe, airing on MTV base , RTI 2, Canal 2, STV, Boom TV,  DBSB TV, Radio stations and news papers. Included in her success story also is her 1st  single “Set Me Free” which earned her Best Female Artist of the Year in Canada at the HNSS Excellence award. She says she has always dreamed of starting a non-profit organization to help the less privileged back in her home Cameroon and she gained the confidence to do so after she became a successful performing artist.

With two hit singles under her belt and a passion for helping the less fortunate, the Afro pop artist Missy BK used money gained from her first Canadian tour to kick-start her foundation in early 2014, by giving the gift of education to five orphans selected from the Helping Hands Children’s Home Orphanage, who needed financial assistance to further their education. These students have proven that they have what it takes to reach their full potential and become key players in creating a peaceful and successful Africa. The Missy BK foundation also donated a laptop to ACCESSLE childcare learning centre situated in Yaoundé the capital of Cameroon. This laptop facilitated   the pupils and students in this institution with access to computer studies and online learning.

The Missy BK  Foundation partners with local community leaders, orphanages and educators in Cameroon to identify girls and boys who are gifted, eager to learn and financially challenged and  work to achieve sustainable impact in these communities by finding and funding hard-working students from rural areas. It’s clear to see that the root to poor education in Cameroon comes from the high rate of poverty ravaging the country. Parents especially the less privileged ones are unable to afford to pay tuition, buy text books and other school needs for their children due to the high rate of unemployment in the country. The outbreak of HIV and Aids also left many children orphans at a very young age.  This foundation provides educational support to orphans that include merit-based scholarships, annual tuition fees, uniforms, personal supplies, and food and learning materials. This basic support allows motivated students to immediately access higher quality education and set them on the track for success.

Out of her love of volunteerism, the Missy BK foundation has since continued to blossom with a lot of activities helping to uplift the Cameroonian society. After talking to Missy BK, this is what she had to say concerning her voluntary act of giving back to the society. “I give not because I have much but because I know exactly how it feels like to have nothing.”

Missy BK’s mother is an important inspiration for her philanthropy. “My mother taught me, I don’t have to wait until I have millions to start helping people, she told me it’s not how much I give but it’s the love that I put into what I give that matters and a little something given to someone could make a big difference in their lives.” Says Bk.
The foundation serves Cameroonians through three major initiatives: The Education and Sponsorship program, Supplies for School program and the Make-A-Wish program: For a child living with a life-threatening medical condition, a wish brings hope, strength and joy. The entire wish process – from the anticipation, to the wish itself, and the memories that it creates – provides a welcomed diversion for children undergoing difficult medical treatments. A wish can also be a positive experience for families in challenging times.
Missy BK is inspiring and her outlook to life is different, her humble and humanitarian acts and passion is an inspiration for many youths to follow. Which also abides with this saying“Love is not patronizing and charity isn't about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same -- with charity you give love, so don't just give money but reach out your hand instead.”- Mother Teresa
Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of others. Step forward, join the Missy BK foundation, reach out and help.

WASAFIX: A MOBILE APP SOLUTION FOR CAMER NUMBERS CONVERSION

What?
Wasafix is a mobile app that serves as a response to the problems posed by the current change of phone numbers in Cameroon. On the 21st of November 2014, all Cameroon numbers switched from 8 to 9 digits. The change requires addition of "6" (for MTN, Orange & Nexttel) or “2” (For Camtel) to a contact to make it 9 digits. Interestingly, an average person has about 80 to 100 contacts, and manually adding "6" or “2” to 100 contacts can be a really painful task and time wasting activity in 2014. As a matter of fact, a smarter move will be using an app to go through your address book, and prepend a "6" or “2”to all Cameroon phone numbers. That is exactly what wasaFIX does. It goes through your contacts, and updates the MTN, ORANGE & NEXTTEL numbers ‘only’ in a flash to reflect the new changes. The app does not update Camtel numbers because the addition process for Camtel occurs differently for the 29 different departments in the 10 different regions in Cameroon. It’s way too complicated and it’s better done manually to avoid many errors. wasaFIX is a polymorphic app, with versions for most Android phones, phones supporting Java, Blackberry, and iPhone.

As of the release date, 21st November, the app has been tested on the following devices:
BlackBerry 9900 (v5.1.0.485), 9300 v6.0.0.534, 8520 v5.0.0.681, BlackBerry v7.1, Alcatel-OT-800/1.0, SonyEcrissonW350i/R10BA015, Nokia2330c-2/06.46, HUAWEI HUAWEI Y300-0100, Samsung Galaxy Pro B7510, Nokia210, SonyEricssonW580i, Nokia6280, Alcatel OT-585, Nokia N97, NokiaE71, Nokia203, Blackberry 9900 and all supporting bb5 - bb9, SpreadTrum6530, LG-C299, ALPS SM-G900H, Nokia700, BenQ Maui E800, LG-KP500-Orange, NokiaX2-01/08.70, TECNO T722, Huawei G6600, Nokia303, Nokia6280, ALCATEL_ONE_TOUCH, ZTE-G-X991-Rio-orange, Huawei_G7220, NokiaX6-00, TECNO TECNO M5, Nokia E72-1

A couple of versions can be downloaded from the official site: http://wasafix.net
The android version is also available on Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wasamundi.wasafix

The iOS version is still under review in the app store.

When?
The idea was conceived some time in the month of October (when ART made the announcement on billboards), by the founders of Wasamundi, Ltd. The team saw a problem and decided to ‘fix’ it. Feasibility studies were carried out, a strategic team was set up and the app development began in the first week of November. Eventually, the first version of the app for Blackberry and Android were published on the 21st of November 2014.

Who?
So who is the amazing crew behind this very practical app?? It is a Wasamundi-Kwata TV developers collabo!!

Quincy Kwende (Software Developer, Wasamundi)
Nara Laurence (Software Developer, Wasamundi)
Clifford Ako (Marketer, Wasamundi)
Brian Mesembe (Software Developer, Kwata TV)
Horace Fonkwe(Business lawyer, interested in IT)

How it works?
The cycle starts by downloading a suitable version of the app from either the site(http://wasafix.net) or the app stores. It's a free app. So users do not pay for downloads. However, it costs 200 FCFA to activate the app, and make it convert all available MTN, ORANGE, NEXTTEL Cameroon numbers in a phone book (SIM and Phone). With that said, here are the 3 main steps in using the app:

1. Download app from wasafix.net or via Google Play (Anroid users), or Blackberry World  (Blackbery users) or AppStore (iPhone users).
2. Run wasaFIX.
3. Activate wasaFIX and Convert all contacts.

For more inquiries about wasaFIX email: support@wasafix.net or call help center on +237671663636.
